Five points to note for pear tree management

The high temperature and high humidity in Summer often cause the fruit trees to grow vigorously and the disease is rampant. If the management measures are improper, it will seriously affect the yield, quality, flower bud differentiation and next year's yield. In order to improve the fruit quality and reduce the loss of fruit farmers, the following measures should be taken according to the local rainfall, soil quality, temperature and other specific conditions:

Drain and stain proof. Drainage ditches need to be pre-set for the construction of pear trees. Plain areas generally use open channels for drainage, and contours for mountainous areas are sufficient. If there is no open drainage channel and the rainfall is heavy, it has caused stagnant water in Liyuan. You need to dig a drainage ditch immediately to drain the stagnant water.

Cultivating loose soil. Cultivation is an effective way to reduce the moisture content of the soil, so it should be cultivated after heavy rain to achieve the purpose of drying soil, loosening soil and promoting root absorption. The depth of plowing is preferably 20 cm; the number of plowing depends on the soil quality and precipitation of the pear orchard.

Appropriate top dressing. Appropriate supplementation of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other available fertilizers in the rainy season is beneficial to tree growth and fruit development, and promotes fruit quality and flower bud differentiation. However, if there is too much topdressing (especially quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer), it will cause the new shoots to grow long, which will cause problems such as crown canopy closure and fruit flavors.

Pest control. High humidity can easily lead to the occurrence of diseases such as scab, etc., and it is necessary to spray and control in time after rain. Commonly used agents are thiophanate-methyl, oxiconazole, and Bordeaux solution. The main types of insect pests are mealworms, pear borer, etc., and the types of pesticides can be selected from imidacloprid, acaricide, cypermethrin, etc.

Summer pruning. Too large a leaf area causes insufficient light, which is not conducive to spraying, and is not conducive to the formation of flower buds in the coming year. Time should be taken for pruning. First, cut off the long branches or over-dense new shoots on the back of the big branches to make the whole branches and leaves evenly illuminated. In order to prevent the sun from causing sunburn on the exposed central stem or main branches, some new shoots can be properly left to be topped at 15-20 cm multiple times to control their growth and promote the formation of flower buds.
