Huang Zhiyang, who lives in the head of the village, has been planting citrus since the 1980s. During the peak period, the annual output of 20 mu of orchard is about 15,000 kilograms. After deducting the cost, the annual profit is nearly 20,000 yuan. In the past few years, affected by the disease of Huanglong, his orchard has been reduced to 10 mu. This year's output is only about 0.75 million kg, and his income is only 6,000 yuan.

The suffering of suffering from Huanglong's disease was not only Huang Zhiyang's family. The entire Houyuan village was caught in the crisis of Huanglong disease. It is understood that in the 1990s, the citrus planting area in Houyangyuan Village was about 2,000 mu, with an annual production value of 1.2 million yuan and a per capita 2000 yuan. The prevalence of strains of broad-leaved oranges and tangerines produced mainly in the region has exceeded 10%, and it is in the outbreak of Huanglong disease. "If we do not prevent and control, citrus fruit in the region will be on the verge of collapse within three to five years," Cao Haiqing, director of the Agricultural Technology Promotion Center of the District Agriculture Bureau, told reporters.

Three major causes of fruit tree disease

Statistics from the Municipal Bureau of Agriculture show that from 2002 onwards, the city’s average annual damage to citrus planting area was nearly 14,000 mu.

Cao Haiqing told reporters that Citrus grandis is the only known media insect for Huanglongbing, and the outbreak of Huanglongbing is related to the occurrence of rafts. The backward cultivation techniques of many farmers, low management investment, and cross-infection in the fields all contribute to the spread of Huanglong disease. “A lot of orchards that have been neglected for cultivation and management or abandoned have provided a place for hibiscus and pathogen accumulation, providing an early pathogen and insect vector stock for the outbreak of Huanglong disease,” said Cao Haiqing.

In addition, the popular quarantine fruit seedlings that are not yet quarantined are one of the causes of the spread of Huanglong disease.

Experts prescribed three prescriptions

Huanglong disease is also known as "citrus cancer." There is currently no effective treatment. In spite of this, relevant experts stated that taking appropriate measures can effectively prevent and treat HLB.
