Electrochemical cyclic voltammetry is used to determine the amount of detergent used in the washing process.

During the washing process, the discharge of the detergent will pollute the environment. Therefore, the use of the best detergent is critical. The amount of detergent depends on the water quality, the degree of contamination and the quality of the laundry equipment, especially the quality of the water is an important factor. Other parameters, such as carbonate or non-carbonate hardness, calcium/magnesium ratio, can affect the amount of detergent.
This research work uses electrochemical methods as detergent sensors to measure important parameters in the washing process and to evaluate the ideal amount of detergent. The method is an alternating current impedance spectroscopy combined with cyclic voltammetry to optimize the amount of detergent by testing the water and the concentration of detergent in the wastewater.
Cyclic voltammetry results show that it is possible to test the calcium/magnesium ratio and carbonate hardness in the water that needs to be known during the optimization process. The AC impedance method can measure the total hardness and detergent concentration in water.
