Experts pointed out that the project first revealed the genetic basis of lung cancer susceptibility in China, and filled the gaps in related fields. For the first time, from the perspective of large population samples, it was proposed and demonstrated that genetic regulation is a key mechanism for lung cancer susceptibility and expands lung cancer susceptibility. The theoretical basis; the first to reveal the various mechanisms of genetic regulation of miRNA expression and maturation in the world, pioneered the peripheral blood miRNA as a hotspot of biomarkers of lung cancer.

Focusing on the new mechanism of genetic susceptibility to lung cancer in China, Shen Hongbing led the team members to carry out systematic and in-depth research and obtained a series of important scientific discoveries.

The team newly discovered 21 lung cancer susceptibility genes and two genetic susceptibility patterns, and racial differences with European and American Caucasians; found that lung cancer susceptibility genes MHC and CTLA-4 mutations regulate T cell activation, revealing T cell activation A common genetic mechanism affecting tumor susceptibility; discovering the mechanism by which genetic variation regulates miRNA expression and maturation affects the development of lung cancer; a new method for early diagnosis and prognosis of lung cancer is established.

The team conducted the largest multi-center multi-central lung cancer susceptibility genomics study in China, which collected more than 9,700 lung cancer cases and more than 10,000 controls. Using the bioinformatics analysis of high-density whole-genome chips and systems, the molecular genetic map of lung cancer in China was established for the first time. The research papers have been published continuously in the world's top journal Nature Genetics, which has attracted wide attention from domestic and foreign counterparts.
