The Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences has successfully developed a new type of genetically modified wheat. Experts believe that this research advances the process of practical development of wheat genetic engineering in China and has advanced international standards. Zhang Xiaodong, associate researcher of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, and others, after four years of hard work, used high-yield, disease-resistant, high-quality wheat popularized in the current Beijing region as materials, and used gene guns to obtain high-molecular glutenin subunit genes from the US high quality bread wheat variety (CHEYENNE). A group of transgenic wheat plants and offspring fruit seeds were obtained by introducing into Beijing wheat embryos, young ears and flowers. The identification of the genetically modified wheat by relevant authorities showed that foreign genes from American wheat varieties have been stably integrated into the Beijing wheat genome.
