Researchers at Harbin Institute of Technology recently introduced a new technology that uses bio-engineering methods to treat crop stalks. The results of the pilot test showed that the application of the technology can degrade the straw and other perishables into high-quality organic fertilizer within 30 days. How to effectively treat crop stalks is a problem faced by most of the northeastern and northwestern agricultural areas. Taking Harbin as an example, only corn stalks amount to more than 8 million tons per year, of which more than 50% of the remaining needs to be treated. Not only does it affect normal farming, but it is also a wintering ground for pests such as corn borer. If it is burned, it not only seriously pollutes the environment, but also wastes useful resources and energy contained in the straw. The research team led by Professor Yang Qian of the Institute of Bioengineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, focused on agricultural production needs, collected 106 strains of cellulose and lignin with strong ability to degrade cellulose and lignin from the Songnen grassland, Daxinganling and Xinjiang Tianshan areas. 14 strains of bacteria were used to study the different culture methods of cellulose-degrading bacteria, and live bacteria consisting of 8-14 microbial strains and strains were obtained. The number of viable cells per gram was greater than 100 million, and crop stalks and the like could be produced within 30 days. Decomposition of easy-to-use compost into high quality organic fertilizer. Through pilot tests and large-scale microbial production experiments, the research group has also developed a production process and equipment for supporting microbial flora preparations, which can provide the desired microbial flora for the 100-ton straw-degrading organic fertilizer production plant. This result has passed the expert appraisal organized by the Science and Technology Department of Heilongjiang Province recently. Experts believe that the promotion of this result is of great significance for protecting the ecological environment and promoting the sustainable development of agriculture.
