Overpacking Definitions and Hazards

Definition: OverPackage means that the package has too many consumables, heavy weight, too much volume, too much cost, too much decoration, and overly elegant words.

Excessive package damage is aesthetically pleasing and conducive to the sale of goods. Appropriate packaging is necessary. However, excessive packaging goes to the other extreme, exaggerating the function of packaging, misleading consumer attitudes, and harming the interests of consumers and society. Excessive packaging overuse of resources, so that society bears excessive packaging costs, the harm in the following aspects.

The first is to waste a lot of resources. The packaging industry's raw materials such as paper, rubber, glass, steel, plastics, etc., use raw materials derived from wood, petroleum, steel, etc. These are China's scarce resources. The second is pollution of the environment. Consumers abandon large amounts of packaging waste and aggravate environmental pollution. The annual emissions of overpackaging comic packaging waste in China accounted for 1/3 of the total weight of municipal solid waste in terms of weight, and reached 1/2 in volume, and the emissions increased at an alarming rate of 10% per year. The cost of overpackaging is considerable, and these overpacks, which consume a lot of resources, all become domestic garbage in the hands of consumers.

The third is to harm social interests. First of all, excessive packaging infringes the interests of consumers, causing them to impose additional huge packaging fees after paying the necessary value of goods. Second, it hurt the interests of the company. Fierce and unfair competition has caused excessive flooding in the market. Enterprises are seeking more profits to use the method of exaggerating packaging decoration to obtain more value from consumers. In the short term, there may be significant increase in corporate profits, but in the long run, this is undoubtedly detrimental to the sustainable development of the company. The third is damaging social interests. The over-packaging style has created a luxurious and exaggerated social atmosphere that is not conducive to building a conservation-oriented society.

The fourth is to induce social luxury culture, conceal corrupt practices and aggravate social disharmony. The sky-price moon cakes, sky-high wine, and high-priced health products that have appeared all over the country have evoked the luxuries of the society and are contrary to China’s national conditions at the primary stage of socialism. What’s even more harmful is that over-packed holiday gifts are used by some as fig leafs. With valuable securities, gifts and even money, open the way for bribery.
