New two-color LED saves valuable space for wearable and medical monitoring systems
SurfLight devices have radiant power of up to 9.5mW, the industry's best level
Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the launch of a new red and infrared two-color LED - VSMD66694, which can be used in patient care systems for wearable devices and medical applications to save space. The Vishay Semiconductors VSMD66694 is available in a small 2mm x 2mm x 0.87mm package with wavelengths of 660nm (red) and 940nm (infrared). It is manufactured using SurfLight technology and delivers the industry's best 9.5mW and 8.5mW.
For space-constrained devices such as smart watches and wristbands, the VSMD66694 in a surface mount package replaces two leaded diodes and is easy to combine with any custom lens system. With a spectral bandwidth of 20 nm at 660 nm, the device maintains a balanced radiant power at the red and infrared wavelengths, providing a balanced signal level for SpO2 and pulse rate monitoring.
The LEDs introduced today have a switching time of 10 ns and a forward voltage drop of 1.4V. The device operates with a high pulse current of 1A for 100μs, a half-height angle of ±60°, and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +85°C. The VSMD66694 has a moisture sensitivity rating of J-STD-020 of Class 3 and can be stored for 168 hours in the shop. It can be lead-free reflow soldered, RoHS and Vishay green, halogen free.
Device specification sheet:
New red and infrared two-color LEDs are available now and are in volume production, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks for larger orders.
