Hair epithelial tumor, commonly known as "grape bunch", is a benign skin tumor derived from the differentiation of pluripotent basal cells into the hair structure. It originates in childhood and adolescence, and is more common in women. Its symptoms are common in the face, which is manifested as Normal skin color, hemispherical or conical shape, hard texture and transparent pimples, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. In a few cases, malignant transformation may occur, or other skin tumors such as cylindrical tumor, subcutaneous tumor, and base cell cancer may be complicated.
The Institute of Dermatology of Anhui Medical University has conducted this research in cooperation with the National Human Genome Southern Research Center since 2001. In the five-year study, experts on the basis of genetic localization of multiple familial epithelial tumors in Chinese Han people, the first to find the cause of hair epithelial tumors in the world is CYLD.
The results clarify the genetic laws of the disease, lay a solid foundation for elucidating the pathogenesis of epithelial tumors, and provide a theoretical basis for future genetic diagnosis, genetic counseling, and drug development and treatment.
According to reports, this achievement has attracted the high recognition of the foreign dermatology community and promoted the international research on hair epithelial tumors.
